This section contains various acts and guidelines that regulate fireworks discharge for specific localities.

Cowichan Valley Regional District

The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) on Vancouver Island has specific guidelines for fireworks discharge.

For instance:

  • a permit is required to discharge fireworks
  • applicant must be 19 years or older and be the property owner
  • liability assumed by permit holder

Additionally, there are prohibitions:

  • no one can sell fireworks
  • no one can discharge fireworks without a permit
  • no one can discharge fireworks within 500m of livestock property

There are penalties for violations:

  • $750 for selling fireworks
  • $250 for unlawful discharge of fireworks

They also encourage you to 'respectfully communicate' with your inconsiderate neighbors.

Metchosin

Their Bylaw #269 is designed in an effort to "To help reduce the risks of fire and fireworks for the safety and protection of persons and property". Get it here.

Saanich

Fireworks Bylaw

  • You can set off fireworks on October 31 only, between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
  • You need a fireworks permit to possess or discharge fireworks in Saanich.
  • We issue permits to those 18 years and older who successfully complete a Saanich Fire Department fireworks safety course within the last three years.
  • You may not buy or sell fireworks in Saanich.
