Perplexity Pro gives you access to several advanced AI Large Language Models (LLM), each with its own strengths and capabilities. They appear when you click the 'Rewrite' button or you can go to your profile to choose one of them. TODO

All models have a context window of around 32,000 tokens, allowing for processing of lengthy inputs and generating detailed outputs. Tokens are basic building blocks of text and can be individual characters, whole/parts of words, or larger amounts of text. Apparently one token averages out to about 4 characters of text for standard English. The AI breaks text down into tokens in order to process it. See Demystifying Tokens: A Beginners Guide To Understanding AI Building Blocks for a good explanation.

The best model for your needs depends on the specific task at hand. Here are some general guidelines:

  • For quick, general searches: Use the Default model
  • For complex reasoning or academic tasks: Try GPT-4 Turbo or Claude 3 Opus
  • For creative writing or content generation: GPT-4 Turbo or Claude 3 Sonnet might be good choices
  • For tasks requiring fast responses: Consider GPT-4o
  • For queries that benefit from Perplexity's search technology: Sonar 32k could be a good option

To fully understand which model works best for you, it's recommended to experiment with different models for various types of queries and compare the results.

Remember that while these models are powerful, they should be used as tools to augment human intelligence rather than replace it, especially for critical tasks or decision-making processes.

Here are some answers to questions about these LLMs.

  • What are the main differences between GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet? GPT-4o excels in speed and real-time processing, Claude 3.5 Sonnet appears to have an edge in overall performance, especially in areas like code generation, reasoning, and specific tasks like image text transcription.
  • How does Perplexity Pro Search handle multi-step reasoning? The pro search breaking down complex queries, chaining multiple searches, performs deeper research, improved accuracy, provides structured responses, handling interdisciplinary questions, enhanced problem-solving.
  • Can Perplexity Pro Search solve complex mathematical problems? Yes by integration with Wolfram|Alpha engine and using multi-step reasoning, it becomes a powerful tool for tackling complex mathematical problems, offering both accuracy and detailed problem-solving processes.
