About IDPS

Some things to know about IDPS.

IDPS Is Growing!

We are already over 150 member strong now and more and more people are joining IDPO everyday. We advocate humane treatment and harmoneous co-existence with the wildlife in our beautiful town of Invermere. We are also open to listening to any wildlife issues experienced by the people of our town and will work on finding humane solutions to them. We do not take any extreme views on the wildlife issues - rather we seek long term, efficient, sustainable, cost-effective and humane solutions to the human-wildlife co-existence issues. We seek to educate those who are willing to learn and we seek to learn from those who are educated. We want to unite our town in finding common solutions to our issues and seek to work with everyone in implemeting the steps necessary to achieve harmoneous co-existence with the wildlife that we are so blessed to have all around us.

What's Happening?

The District of Invermere plans to have a massive killing of its deer population soon. The deer will be captured using a clover trap at night where they will be attracted inside a trap using fruits and other foods that deer like. In the middle of the winter when food is scarce for them, they will go inside the trap - just hoping to eat something so that they can survive the harsh winter. Little will they know that this will be their last meal and that they will not see another sun rise in their life again. Once they go inside the trap, the trap will close in on them suddenly. They will get frightened and desperately try to escape - but the trap is made of steel and they will have no way to get out. Some of them will get injured severely in their struggle to escape - but still there will be no escape for them. There in the dark of the night they must wait - cold, hungry and frightened. They will wait inside the trap for the killers to arrive. Before the sun rises, the killers will come. With them will be bolt guns - a gun that shoots a 4 inch long steel bolt inside the deer's head. They will come and collapse the trap on top of the deer and wrestle the deer to the ground. One of the killers will try to hold the head of the deer steady. The deer will struggle and cry - but the killers will not care. As soon as one of the killers can hold the deer's head, the other killer will shoot the bolt gun to its head. The struggling deer will try to move its head away - but the killers will shoot anyway. Sometimes, the killers will need to shoot the bolt repeatedly to kill the deer. Sometimes they would miss because the deer will be struggling - so they will shoot in the eyes or the neck or whereever they can - and eventually they will succeed ad the deer will be killed. This is how the last night of the deer's life will be like. They will kill the males, they will kill the females, they will kill the pregnant female deer and they will kill the fawns. They will kill the mother and ther babies together. and they will sometimes kill the mothers while the fawns will be out and sometimes the fawns will be killed while the mother is out.

What can we do?

We,the people of Invermere, are absolutely opposed to this kind of inhumane, cruel and barbaric event from happening in our beautiful valley. Those of us who still have even some traces of humanity left in us have organized and together we are determined to stop this killing immediately. Our mayor and the councillors have decided to ignore the wishes of the majority of the people and only cater to a special interest group who will get benefited by eliminating the deer from Invermere. They have created a false hysteria around the presence of deer in our town. Those in the special interest group contstantly talk about how "aggressive" and "dangerous" the deer are and we need to eliminate them to keep the people safe where the vast majority of the people of Invermere have been co-existing with the deer without any issues for years and years. We need to speak loudly and clearly at every opportunity so that our voices will be hard to ignore. With all of together, we will demand that this ill conceived idea be put to rest and that the mayor and the council pay heed to our concerns and suggestions. We demand adequate public consultation and public input in deciding the best course of action that can address the concerns of some of our fellow town people regarding the town deer. We demand an accurate and scientific deer count that properly reflect the number of town deer ( deer that are born and stay in the town of Invermere). We demand adequate research in assessing the risks from the Invermere town deer to the town people and we demand an array of properly researched, scientific, long term and sustainable humane solutions to mitigate any identified risks.

Can we win?

Please join us and fight to save the deer of Invermere. We must fight until this ill conceived barbaric activity comes to an end. Those in power may think that they are strong and can do as they like. They may think that they can ignore the wishes of the people without consequences. Join us and show them that our voices matter and that our voices must be heard. Together we can be stronger than any "Powers that be". We will win this struggle - and we will win for one simple fact - we represent what is good, humane, logical, kind and compassionate.
