Princeton philosopher and "father of the modern animal rights movement" Peter Singer and Animal Rights Hawaii co-founder Cathy Goeggel are pictured at Singer's lecture Sept 1, 2001, at the McCoy Pavilion in Honolulu. An estimated 200 people heard Professor Singer discuss his classic book  Animal Liberation and what's happened since the landmark 1975 publication. Slides of intensive animal agriculture brought home the abuse found on factory farms for the nearly 10 billion animals slaughtered for food each year in the U.S.
