Dog Meat
Disappearing Dogs at Local Korean Restaurant
February 28, 2003
Animal Rights Hawaii received a tip that a local Korean restaurant had been
keeping dogs at the rear of their property and that the dogs were disappearing
regularly. The dogs were tied to a tree behind the kitchen door; they were fed
bowls of kim chee and rice for several days before slaughter. It is standard
procedure to starve dogs until the dogs will eat the spicy food. This
essentially marinates the meat before slaughter.
When we arrived we could see the dog was ill. Pools of diaharrea were found
all around the dog's area, and we observed the remnants of a bowl of kimchee.
The small 22 pound adult male terrier was very frightened, and kept flinching as
though we were going to beat him. ARH Investigators explained to the cook that
we were confiscating the animal. There was no argument from the cook and another
person who had been summoned because she spoke and understood English.
ARH has launched a round the clock watch on this facility and will handle any
future incidences with swift and just action.

**We never sleep**
**We never forget**
The dog was named KC and is being rehabilitated currently with ARH activists.
KC has been checked over by certified veterinarians and given a special diet and
medication to help him with a speedy recovery. KC was checked for an ID
microchip, but none was found. KC is a terrier mix male, estimated three years
of age. He is well behaved, gets along fine with other dogs, and fully
understands the concept of using the outside toilet facilities. KC will be
available for adoption within a week or two, and will make a fantastic companion
for a special human!
