Chimp Show
June 12, 2003
Chimps paraded at the fair
Members of
Animal Rights Hawai'i, including one in a prisoner costume and a lifelike
Chimpanzee mask, urged fair goers to not visit the performing Ape act at
the Fair. We entered the fair and started filming the Chimpanzee trailer
from the back; the show was delayed 15 minutes whilst the Ape abusers
refused to bring the nearly hairless Chimpanzees out to costume them in
full view of our cameras. At one point 3 Chimpanzees were herded into a
small sedan and kept there for several minutes.
When the
show finally started, our videographer was in the audience, and was
ordered to stop filming because the show is "copyrighted." He
was also verbally abused by one of the show staff. It was obvious that the
show people were unwilling to have their actions documented on film.
