Bird Poisoning Stopped:
Hawai'i Convention Center to stop poisoning
January 28, 2002
Following urgent calls from local bird re-habbers that large numbers of
doves, pigeons, sparrows, finches and cardinals were dying on the
promenade fronting the Ala Wai Canal at the rear of the Hawai'i Convention
Center, ARH filed an official complaint with the Convention Center, the
State and County Pesticide Agencies and the US Fish & Wildlife
Service.
ARH was provided with documented evidence of the baiting and
application of the tainted feed. Bodies of dead birds were kept for
toxicology tests.
After initially denying that any poisons were used, The Convention
Center has officially stated that it will cease use of Avitrol effective
immediately.
Thanks to the compassionate people who work so diligently for the birds
and provided the hard evidence on this case. They made it happen!
