"But I can't ...
I can't swim!"
Liberty barked.

I didn't say a word. Instead, I used all my strength to shove her towards the deep, icy water. It was the only way to escape the two-legged enemies. What would I do without Liberty...I had to save my pup. She meant so much to me.

Glancing back, I realized they were just a few metres behind. I kept struggling to save my baby, to get her to the water.

I tried not to concentrate on what was in their hands; how many innocent lives had been torn apart? How many would be?...Hooked, dragged, possibly skinned alive...It's barbaric.

Liberty was killed before my eyes. We couldn't make it to the water in time. I tried everything I could to stop them. I stood between her and them, screaming, in desperation. It's murder of the defenseless.

Answers to commonly asked questions...

What about all the people who will lose their jobs, due to a seafood boycott, and an end to the seal hunt?
A seafood boycott could end just as quickly as it has begun; the government would just need to end the seal hunt, and no more boycott. Also, the seal hunt goes on for a couple months each year...Therefore, very likely, most sealers would have another job to support themselves the rest of the year. Plus, human beings are flexible; they can always train for a new job.

Aren't the harp seals they kill, adult?
Most of the seals they kill are, actually, babies between 12 days and 12 weeks. Yes, they have stopped killing white coats. But what do you call a 12 day-12 week old seal???

Aren't the seals humanely killed?
According to studies, up to 42% could have been skinned alive, in March 2001. Seals are either shot or clubbed to death. When shot, many slip into the water and suffer until they are dead...Definitely not humane!

Can we live without seal fur?
We don't need any ind of fur! This is the 21st century we are living in, and we have plenty of faux fur fabrics (fake fur).

What can you do?

1. Obviously, don't buy fur; it could be seal!

2. Boycott Canadian seafood ... Don't eat it, ask your family and friends not to eat it. If there's a big enough impact on the seafood industry, they may end the commercial seal hunt.
(Get more details from other sites listed in our links section.)

3. Write to the Canadian government. Tell them to end this slaughter of innocence. It's the biggest marine mammal slaughter in the world...Disgusting! Also, explain to them that you are boycotting seafood until this is ended.

4. Phone the Canadian Prime Minister's office at, 1-866-599-4999. It's a toll free number for Canadians to reach the Hon. Mr. Paul Martin. Explain that you are against the seal hunt, you want it ended, and why! Also mention that you are boycotting seafood.
