-
What racquet sports have you competed
in?
-
In the winter I play a lot of squash and a little tennis but in the
summer I play a lot of tennis and no squash. Last year I played
badminton at a competitive level.
-
-
What is your age?
-
I'm 19 years (1999).
-
-
Tell us about your early years playing raquet
sports.
-
I started playing tennis at the age of six in summer camps. When it
rained we played badminton indoors and I loved it, so that winter at the
age of seven I was enrolled in a badminton program. A few years later,
when I was 10 I played in a squash camp. I won a few matches and have
been playing ever since.
-
-
Why did you start playing?
-
I started playing because my mom played badminton and tennis. During
her racquets sports career she met many of her closest friends and she
had many positive experiences. She wanted me to experience similar
things.
-
-
Who inspired you?
-
I was inspired by the opportunities of racquet sports. I have
traveled across Canada, to the United States, Mexico, and Brazil playing
tournaments. In each of these countries I have met new people and
experienced other cultures, which is something that I would not have
been able to do without playing racquet sports.

-
Who are your favorite players and
why?
-
One is Pete Sampras because he has dominated men's tennis for years.
Sampras is a serve and volleyer and he has remained relatively humble.
Monica Seles is another one of my favorite players. She has overcome and
perservered through the physical harm of being stabbed in the back and
the emotional trauma of the death of her father to remain one of the
worlds best players.
-
-
What are your career highlights?
-
The first was 1996 Junior Badminton Nationals. I won the women's
singles and came second in women's doubles. My second career highlight
was playing the final match for Canada at the World Junior Squash
Championships. Canada played Egypt for fifth place and we won 2 matches
to 1. Fifth place was the best finish ever for Canada in a World Junior
event. My third career highlight was playing badminton in the Junior Pan
Am Games in Mexico. I won two silver medals in women's singles and
doubles and a team Canada gold medal.
-
-
Where do you play?
-
I play at the Winnipeg Winter Club in the winter and the Winnipeg
Lawn and Tennis Club during the summer.
-
-
What is your work?
-
I work as an assistant squash coach at the Winter Club. I am in my
second year of university at the University of Winnipeg in the faculty
of science.
