Mental Diet

George Zuwala

Many people talk about the benefits of different food diets. However we have forgotten probably one of the most important diets to our health and that being a Mental Diet.

It is not only important in what we put in our mouths but also equally important is what we put in our minds. As the saying goes 'Garbage in and Garbage out'. In today's society we have become accustomed to let a box with a screen dominate our thoughts. Have you ever watched a commercial several times then one day you will be walking along and for no reason at all you will start singing the commercials jingle and you will wonder why? Well this is a form of programming. Programming can be a powerful thing if used in the right way.

A mental diet like any thing in life needs to become habit. A habit is something that we do each and everyday to the point where it becomes part of our lives (programming). Of course there are good habits as well as bad habits. For example the habit of smoking, swearing, eating poor foods would be considered bad habits where as the habits of being courteous, going to exercise each day, eating more live foods are good habits that we choose each day. I know each day we try to choose the right habit, but sometimes we don't make those right choices. Of course the best way to remove a bad habit is to replace it with a good one.

One important Mental Vitamin I recommend in is taking one hour a day of your time to reading a book/report/web site that would provide your mind with nourishment. This could be done at any time of the day or evening. Choose a subject or topic that really interests and inspires you. By making this a habit, I assure you that it will enhance not only your mind but your life.

Another Mental Vitamin I recommend is listening to audio cassettes rather than listening to the top 40 where the only ones that really benefit are the artists who are selling their music. Instead make your tape deck a University on Wheels. Think about it for a moment for the amount of time spent commuting from work to home you could now learn a new language, listen to inspirational speakers or better yet you can record your own voice and listen to positive sayings that you have said about yourself. By doing this you literally can bring music to your ears for most people love to hear the sound of their own voices. These are just a few examples of Mental Vitamins I take.

A Mental Diet along with excellent fuel (food) and a spiritual life will take you a long way in your journey Towards Freedom ........
