The Canadian Horse Defense Coalition is committed to securing the introduction of a Private Members' Bill banning the slaughter of horses and the export of horses for slaughter at the next available session of Parliament.
We are currently in the development stage to achieve this mission.

WHAT ARE PRIVATE MEMBERS' BILLS?

HOW A BILL BECOMES LAW
- First Reading in the House of Commons
- Second Reading
- Referral of the Bill to the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Human Rights. At this stage, organizations and individuals can make comments to the Committee on the legislation.
- Third and Final Reading in the House of Commons
- First Reading in the Senate
- Second Reading in the Senate
- Referral of the Bill to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee. At the committee stage, considerable review takes place, including hearing from relevant organizations.
- Third Reading. If there are no changes recommended by the Senate, it goes for Royal Assent. If there are changes, it goes back to the House for approval of Senate changes and then to Royal Assent
- Royal Assent
- The bill becomes Law
