Notable events for 2006


January 2006

Community meeting at Duncan United Church. Over 30 people attended to begin to develop a sustainability plan.

Addendum to book project approved.


February 2006

Reception in Ladysmith for community services and groups.


March 2006

Reception at Duncan City Hall honouring our president Garth Harvey upon receiving the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award.

Eldercare Education conference held March 23 on Seniors and Safety.


May 2006

Second annual The Shawnigan Lake Walk held May 14. The walk was very successful with almost a 50% increase in the number of walkers and net income.


June 2006

Working with Cowichan Valley Hospice to hold educational event for caregivers in 2007.


July 2006

Submitted proposal to New Horizons for a 'memory plus' program in partnership with Home and Community Care, Duncan Mental Health, Providence Farm, Alzheimer's Society and Ladysmith Parks and Recreation. Funding was declined.


September 2006

Cowichan Secondary School was contacted and they expressed interest in helping to create a public service announcement for the Society.


November 2006

Proposal submitted to Gaming for communications program which includes the newsletter.

A team of caregivers who had been creating crafts throughout the year, planned and organized a table at Christmas Chaos. Approximately $500 was raised.


December 2006

Edrich Richards from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Division of Aging encourages submission of a proposal to establish a writing team to assist with production of the book.

Maggie and Kathy arranged for and organized the Caregiving Christmas Tree in the display organized by the Duncan Business Association. Local businesses and citizens donated to the cause by offering mitts and socks to those in need.
