January 2000

Training with Vickie Cammack, Project Consultant from PLAN.

Setting our values and directions for the project: Every member of community valued. All have gifts - linked to abilities, attributes and interests. Developing circles develops community by drawing on and enhancing people's strengths.

First Resource Committee Meeting with Vickie Cammack.

Commencement of weekly circle meetings for Facilitators.

Talking to organizations and individuals re project.

Development and gathering of resource material, such as Support Circle leaflet (scan coming soon!).

Referrals from Health Region Staff.


February 2000

Health Region staff (nursing, social work, chaplain) in service training at Cowichan Home Support Board Room re circles project (initiated by Health Region Staff).

Introduction and meeting with families.

Majority of referral received. Waiting list developed.


March 2000

Beginning to develop circles - introducing potential circle members to families.

Ranjana guest speaker at inter-cultural caregiving forum.

Continuing regular meetings at Tsewultun Health Centre for Facilitators.

Tele-conference with project consultant.

Commencement of inter-cultural work within circles began to be developed.

First Eldercare Education Committee Meeting - suggestion made for theme of workshop to be circles of caring.

Second Community Resource committee meeting.

Continuing to meet with individuals and organizations within local community.

First circle meeting for one of project families.


April 2000

Development of connection with other resources in the community - such as caregiving support group.

Presentation to South Health Advisory Committee by invitation.

Presentation about caregiving support to the Central Vancouver Island Regional Health Board.

Continuation of circle development.

Evolution of project management. Acquired project independence. First meeting of the new board.

First finance committee meeting.

Another first circle meeting.


May 2000

First publicity committee meeting.

Presentation to Mid Island Family Caregiver's Network about project, (by request).

Community Resource Committee meeting.

1/4 project review by facilitators.

Evaluation Sub-Committee meeting.

Circle meeting for Facilitators re-connecting us with our hopes and dreams for the project.


June 2000

Development of inter-cultural cargiving develops further.

Evaluation Sub-Committee meeting.

Finance committee meeting.

Celebratory circle meeting for one family.

Eldercare Education Committee meeting.


July 2000

Maintenance and evolution of circles. Relationship building.

Co-ordination of guest speakers and planning for circles of caregiving conference.

Community Resource Committee meeting.


August 2000

Meetings with families.

Lots of speaking to community.

On-going facilitation - linking circle members to families.

Community building re project. Growing impact on community. Referrals/interest growing. Information requests.

Circle Review. Collection and collation of statistics.

Eldercare committee meeting.


September 2000

'Circles of Caring' Forum at the Silver Bridge Inn, with guest speakers Robert George, Betty Nickerson, Vickie Cammack, Ranjana Basu, Lilian Provencal (scan leaflet).

9 month review for Facilitators. Showed need for change in structure. Hours to be divided amongst more Facilitators.

Evaluation sub-committee meeting. Information and statistics submitted for processing.


October 2000

Hiring of two new Facilitators

Postponed circle celebration from October to December, due to growth of project. Circle celebration requested by 'first circle'
