CATCA report 2010-2011: Internet trade of primates in Latin America
Our report on E-trade of primates in Latin America
Due to the vast international media coverage we received with the CATCA Ecuador Report, and the great lobbying and informative tool that the CATCA Elephant Report turned out to be during the last CITES CoP in Doha, Qatar in March 2010, CATCA decided to continue to investigate, evaluate and expose the internet trade in Latin America.
Both Reports were a great success and we were congratulated not only by colleagues from other NGO's, but also by the CITES Secretariat, Interpol and the CITES enforcement authorities from the different countries participating at the CoP15.
Once more, our gratitude goes to the Rufford Small Grants Foundation. Without them we would not have been able to develop this project. In this research, CATCA found more primate species than we expected and also a vast amount of Old world monkeys. This investigation helped us to assess the internet trade in 5 Latin American countries.
