As I walk through the aisles of the grocery store I am amazed at the
collection of cardboard, plastic, metal, and glass sitting on the
shelves. One must ask oneself where does this all come from and where
does it go?

One particular aisle that is unique is the Potato Chip aisle. I guess it
is unique in the sense of how a whole aisle is dedicated to this
particular product. I call it a product because we really can’t call it
food now can we?

Most potato chips range in the price of $.99 cents to about $2.99 for
the more exotic and healthier chips.. Like there is such a thing as a
healthy potato chip! Once oil is heated (even olive oil), it becomes a
potent substance that can only do the body harm. So don’t be fooled into
believing a lot of the so called health companies claiming their chips
are so healthy.

When I look at a bag of potato chips I see the price at $1.99 and think
that is pretty inexpensive or is it?

If we think for a moment, we have become so conditioned into believing
that certain foods are natural because the packaging says so, but when
is the last time that you saw lettuce in your garden with plastic
wrapping all over it?

So then, what really is the cost of the potato chips? Although I have
never worked in a processing plant of potato chips, I have to use common
sense here. I think we can all agree the potatoes must be harvested.
This would require water and most likely chemicals to allow the potatoes
to grow.

They then either harvest the potatoes by paying people to pick the
potatoes or use a vehicle that requires fuel and a driver to operate the
vehicle.

Once the potatoes are harvested they are then placed in a vehicle which
needs fuel and a driver to transport the goods to the plant.

In the plant where the potatoes are made into potato chips they use
lights, water to wash, electricity to run the machines, people,
chemicals and plastic to put the chips into.

The chips are then placed into cardboard boxes and placed into a vehicle
which requires more fuel and a driver to transport the product to a
local depot or store. Of course, if it is not local, then the product is
shipped by air/vehicle which requires more fuel.

Once it arrives in the store the driver unloads the product in the
warehouse of the store. Then the stock person takes the cardboard apart
and places the product on the shelves with sign SPECIAL ONLY $1.99!

Is it only $1.99?

This was a quick illustration of what had to take place in order for
this product which has no benefit in the human or any living animals
diet. The amount that was spent on wages, fuel etc. would be very high
for these products. However the manufacturers know a couple of things.
First of all, although $1.99 sounds inexpensive the cost of potatoes is
inexpensive as well: you could probably buy 5-10 times the amount of
potatoes had you bought them in their natural state. Secondly, they know
how addictive the product is and what better kind of customer to have
than one who becomes addicted to your product. It provides the
manufacturer a steady customer who becomes dependent on it.

The biggest costs are the environmental ones: the fuels, chemicals,
vehicles etc. used have a bigger impact than anything. What’s inside the
plastic wrapping will be used in a few minutes by the consumer, yet the
plastic will remain for many, many years in our land files and pollute
our beautiful planet. The cost of the Potato Chips is far greater than
$1.99.

The next time you see an item that your wanting to purchase ask yourself
what is the real cost of my using this product? The biggest difference
we can make is in through our choices at the grocery stores. Our dollar
is powerful - please use it wisely.

Eat foods in their Raw state - you will not only benefit your pocket
book, but the planet as well.

Stress

I often hear the word Stress almost everywhere I go. It is almost as if
it is normal to feel or have Stress. Is it really normal? Many people
blame their ill health and lifestyle on Stress.

What is Stress? Stress is simply the result of thoughimages that we
choose to repeat over and over in our minds. Therefore if stress comes
from our thoughts, is it then not safe to say that since we are in
control of our thoughts that we just simply replace poor thoughts with
more elevated ones to alleviate Stress? Is it really that simple?

Absolutely. Stress does not cause sickness or disease it’s our inability
to comply with Nature’s Laws that does.

Let’s take for example the life of an animal in the wild. Each day the
animal must go about its daily business knowing that they may be another
animal’s Lunch or Supper. Now by most people’s criteria for stress this
would be pretty stressful wouldn’t it? Can you imagine going to work and
on your way to work you would have to be aware that something might just
come around and attack you or worse eat you? Now why aren’t animals
dying of heart attacks, cancer, nervous breakdowns etc. if Stress were a
killer?

There are several reasons…

Animals eat naturally Rawfoods according to their instincts. You don’t
see an animal with a pot/pan in one hand and a recipe book in another.
They eat simple Rawfoods.

Animals exercise each day while doing their daily tasks. No time for
exercise you say - then you will have to make time to be sick.

Animals are in the Fresh air and Sunshine. One of the keys to Health
most people wear sun tan lotion and sun glasses as if the sun will harm
them. See any animals with a pair of Vaurnet’s on lately?

Animals rest and relax when they are not feeling well and don’t go grab
an advil to alleviate their problems. You must take time to relax and
rest not only your body but your mind as well. Closing your eyes is one
of the simplest things you can do.

Most importantly animals live a simple Natural Life and live in
accordance to Nature’s Law.

One of the most simplest ways to remove Stress in your life is to change
your thoughts. How do I do this? Simple use techniques such as
affirmations, prayer, meditations, NLP, etc. To replace one thought with
another. Here is something you can do right away. Instead of watching
those old poor quality videos you keep running in your mind, why not
chose one of the following titles…

Run these titles in your mind and then watch the Real Magic appear that
will amaze even Walt Disney.

Now as humans we have been given the power of choice that animals are
limited to so instead of choosing Poor thoughts why not choose uplifting
ones. The choice is yours away from freedom or Towards Freedom ….

Pesticides and Our Crops

In today’s society we hear often the term pesticides. What are
pesticides? Pesticides are harmful chemicals that are sprayed on produce
to prevent insects from destoying the crop. That seems kind of odd
doesn’t it? Putting harmful chemicals on food that we will eventually
consume. Do they realize that if insects and bugs are running away from
these deadly chemicals what the chemicals would do in our bodies.
Pesticides are a big business and in theworld of greed - money seems to
be the biggest motivating factor.

How can we avoid the pesticide produce?

Organic produce is the best produce to purchase. Specifically look for
certified organic growers or better yet grow the fruits and vegetables
yourself so you can be assured that your produce is safe.

Of course in an imperfect world we can’t always eat organic or have the
good fortune of growing our own produce, so keeping that in mind, I have
provided a list from the Environmental Working Group, compiled from FDA
and EPA data.

Enjoy or should I say avoid …

Strawberry growers everywhere use large amounts of pesticides,
particularly fungicides. The end result is a popular fruit that contains
a myriad of toxic chemicals. Of the 42 fruits and vegetables we
examined, strawberries ranked first in combined contamination, with 189
out of 200 possible points.

70% of the strawberry samples tested positive for one or more
pesticides, and 36% contained two or more chemicals, including 19
samples with four pesticides, four samples with five, and one with six
different pesticides. The FDA detected 30 different pesticides on
strawberries, second only to apples with 36. More significant, however,
is the toxicity of the pesticides detected and the percentage of the
crop and levels at which they are found. Based on the results of 361
samples of strawberries by the FDA over a two year period:

Strawberries had the highest average levels by far of pesticides that
disrupt the endocrine system. The mean amount of endocrine disrupters
was more than 20% higher than the next vegetable, spinach. The
carcinogenic potency of the average residue on strawberries ranked
seventh overall. The neurotoxic potency of the pesticides on
strawberries was 15th out of the 42 produce items evaluated.

Sweet peppers (or bell peppers) from the US and Mexico constitute
approximately 98% of US sweet pepper consumption, and have a
considerably worse pesticide profile than peppers from any other
country.

64% of the sweet pepper crop from the US and Mexico contained residues
of at least one pesticide, and 36% contain two or more pesticides. Of
the 393 samples taken between 1992 and 1993, 11 contained residues of
five different pesticides and 3 samples had residues of six pesticides.
In total, 26 pesticides were detected on US and Mexican sweet peppers.

The neurotoxic potency of pesticide residues on US and Mexican sweet
peppers was the highest of any crop tested - 65% higher than the potency
for the next highest food. Methamidophos was found on 42% of the
samples, acephate was found on 25%, carbaryl on 18%, and chlorpyrifos
and dimethoate on 10%. Endocrine disrupters ranked 12th out of 42 crops
tested, while the cancer potency of the average residue was relatively
low at 32nd out of 42.

Spinach has residues of fewer pesticides than other crops in the list of
the twelve most contaminated, but the concentrations for certain
cancer-causing and endocrine disrupting chemicals are considerably
higher than those for other produce. Just over 50% of the spinach
samples tested positive for one of 17 different pesticides. 17%
contained two to four pesticides.

The most commonly detected pesticide on spinach was permethrin, a
possible human carcinogen and endocrine disrupter. Permethrin was found
in relatively large amounts, which helped make spinach second only to
strawberries in the total mean residue of endocrine disrupters and
reproductive toxins. The neurotoxic potency of the average residue, in
contrast, was 28th out of the 42 crops tested.

The cancer potency of the average total residue on spinach was the
highest of any of the produce analyzed. And actual levels of carcinogens
on spinach are likely to be higher than we estimated. One reason is that
chlorothanonil, a probable human carcinogen, was found at relatively
high levels on several spinach samples. The FDA, however, tested only 17
out of 189 samples for chlorothalonil. Because of our sample size
requirement of 20 per pesticide/crop combination, these results were not
included in the overall ranking.

Spinach also had relatively high levels of DDT, which was found in 10%
of 186 samples.

Cherries grown in the United States have a far different pesticide
profile than those that are imported. While imported cherries are among
the cleanest fruits and vegetables analyzed, US cherries are the fourth
worst. The detections on domestic cherries reveal a panoply of
pesticides - 26 different pesticides, more than three times the number
found on imported cherries.

71% of US - grown samples contained residues of one or more pesticides,
compared with 35% of imported samples. More significantly, almost half
of all US cherries are likely to contain multiple pesticide residues,
whereas, in comparison, only 2% of imported cherries contained more than
one pesticide. Up to five pesticides were found on single domestic
cherry samples.

Domestically grown cherries rank fourth in terms of cancer potency of
the average residue, ninth in average amount of endocrine disrupters and
reproductive toxins, and 14th in neurotoxic potency of the average
residue.

The summer peach. So juicy, so tasty … so full of pesticides. Peaches
ranked high in each of the seven categories we examined. 71% of the
peach crop sampled by the FDA tested positive for pesticides, fifth
among the 42 fruits and vegetables analyzed. 32% of samples contained
two or more pesticides, including six samples with five, two samples
with six, and one peach sample with residues of seven pesticides, the
highest multiple residue in a single sample found by the FDA over the
two year testing period (along with two apple samples). In total, 26
different pesticides were found on peaches.

Many of the most commonly detected chemicals are probable human
carcinogens, most notably iprodione and captan. Peaches ranked sixth in
cancer potency of the average residue, and eleventh for the average
residue of endocrine disrupters and twelfth inpotency of the average
neurotoxic residue.

Nearly 15% of cantaloupes consumed each year in the United States come
from Mexico. Compared to US grown cantaloupe, Mexico melons are much
more contaminated with pesticides.

76% of the samples tested positive for at least one pesticide, number
three overall. And this may be an underestimate. 100% of 70 samples
tested positive for chlorothalonil, a probable human carcinogen. These
70 samples, however, are just 40% of the 173 samples of cantaloupes from
Mexico tested by the FDA during 1992-1993.

48% of cantaloupes from Mexico tested positive for two or more
pesticides, more than any other crop analyzed. Up to five different
pesticides were found on single samples of cantaloupe from Mexico. In
contrast, just 47% of cantaloupe grown in theUS contained any pesticide,
and only 16% of domestic samples contained two or more pesticides.

Cantaloupes from Mexico ranked number two for the neurotoxic potency of
the average residue. The average residue of endocrine disrupters was
13th out of the 42crops analyzed, while the cancer potency of the
average residue was 26th of 42 crops.

Nearly every bite of celery we take is also a bite of pesticides. 81% of
the 188 celery samples tested positive for pesticide residues, more than
any other crop analyzed. And, an analysis of detection rates for some
pesticides reveals that this figure may be too low. For example, 91 out
of 94 (96%) of domestic and imported celery samples were positive for
for the probable human carcinogen chlorothalonil. Overall, however, this
amounted to about one half of the 182 samples of celery that were tested
for pesticides by the FDA.

FDA’s lack of testing for some heavily used pesticides makes crops
appear to have fewer pesticides on them than they actually do. Even with
this caveat, 35% of celery samples contained residues of two or more
pesticides, and up to five different pesticides were found on a single
sample.

Celery ranked third in the neurotoxic potency of the average residue,
14th in the cancer potency of the average residue, and 20th out of 42
for the average residue of endocrine disrupters.

Apples are the quintessential American fruit. Apple pie, apple sauce,
theapple of my eye, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Apples also
have more different pesticides on them than any other fruit or
vegetable - 36 different pesticides according to FDA data - and
morepesticides (7) found on a single sample than any other crop. 61% of
apple samples tested positive for pesticides, and multiple pesticides on
single samples are common. 33% of apple samples contained two or more
pesticides, 18 samples had five, five had six, and two samples were
contaminated with seven different pesticides.

Of the thirty six pesticides detected on apples, eight are classified by
the EPA as possible or probable human carcinogens, and 15 are neurotoxic
organophosphate insecticides. Apples also contain a high concentration
of endocrine disrupters. Apples ranked tenth in average residue of
endocrine disrupting pesticides, 16th in the neurotoxic potency of the
average residue, and 23rd in the cancer potency of the average residue.

Apricots contain consistently high levels of multiple pesticides,
including carcinogens like captan on 35% of all samples. 64% of the FDA
samples contained one or more pesticides, and 38% had two or three
residues. Fourteen different pesticides were detected on apricots.

Apricots ranked eighth out of 42 fruits and vegetables in average
residue of endocrine disrupting pesticides, 19th in the neurotoxic
potency of the average residue, and tenth in the cancer potency of the
average residue.

Twenty-three different pesticides were detected on green bean samples in
1992 and 1993. 18% of these samples had residues of more than one
pesticide - up to four on a single sample. More than 13% of samples
contained residues of three pesticides, and 28% of samples tested
positive for chlorothalonil, a probable human carcinogen.

Green beans ranked fifth out of 42 crops in the neurotoxic potency of
the average residue, sixth in average residue of endocrine disrupting
pesticides, and 19th in the cancer potency of the average residue.

From January through April, 90% of the grapes eaten in the United States
are from Chile, where growers use less sophisticated pest control
techniques than grape growers in the United States. Consequently, a far
higher percentage of Chilean crop tests positive for pesticides.

According to the FDA, 79% of grapes grown in Chile contained pesticide
residues in 1992 and 1993, the second highest of all 42 fruits and
vegetables analyzed. 46% of the Chilean samples contained two or more
pesticides, with up to six different pesticides found on a single sample
of Chilean grapes. In contrast, only 17% of the US grapes contained
detectable residues, and only 6% contained multiple residues. In total,
seventeen different pesticides were found on the Chilean crop.

The probable human carcinogens captan and iprodione were found on 64 and
28% of Chilean grape samples respectively, compared with 4-5% of all
samples of domestically grown grapes, respectively. 27% of Chilean
grapes contained the endocrine disrupting fungicide vinclozolin,
compared to just one sample (less than one%) of grapes from the United
States.

The cancer potency of the average residue on Chilean grapes was 11th out
of 42crops, and the average load of endocrine disrupting pesticides was
19th. The neurotoxic potency of the average residue was in the bottom
third of all crops evaluated, at 30th.

Cucumbers complete the list of the twelve most contaminated due
primarily to residues of a cancer causing insecticide, dieldrin, that
was banned in the United States over 20 years ago. Even though dieldrin
is not directly applied to the crop, it is persistent in the soil and is
taken up by cucumbers. One out of every 14 cucumber samples from across
the United States andMexico contained residues of this highly toxic
compound. As a result, cucumbers ranked number two in cancer risk of all
42 crops evaluated.

Most other results are in the middle of the pack. Cucumbers rank 23rd
for residues of endocrine disrupting pesticides, and 22nd for neurotoxic
potency of the average residue. 40% of cucumbers had detectable
residues, according to the FDA, and12% of samples had two or more
residues detected. Twenty different pesticides were found on cucumbers
over the two year period from 1992 through 1993.

Raw Lifestyle Transition

Here are some of the issues I have noticed some people go through while
starting on a Raw lifestyle. These issues being low self-esteem and
guilt.

When someone chooses this lifestyle they may experience detox (i.e.
running noses, head aches, vomiting, skin eruptions etc.) and feel bad
physically and mentally. Feeling bad physically makes sense, but feeling
bad mentally doesn’t.

Many people start to question going Raw as the problem and not the
solution to their problems. They wonder.

This is when doubt sets in. Doubt can be a very interesting learning
experience. Doubt to me is like a storm that comes through one?s mind
and if your home (thoughts on Raw) is built out of straw it will be
blown away by the first storm and if it has been built with concrete
then it will weather any storm.

This is where experiences and knowing can come into play. If you think a
Raw lifestyle is for you then I assure you, your home is made of straw
and if you know that the Raw lifestyle is for you then you will have a
nice safe home that can handle any storm until the day you leave this
plane.

Many people who choose Raw, work with other coworkers. This can be an
interesting learning experience. Many people will feel guilty in calling
in sick or taking a day off due to detox. They feel they have to
maintain this image of a super-being, yet they don’t realize that detox
is part of the process (even Mother Nature detoxes through floods and
earthquakes). They feel there is no way that they can call in sick:

When they come back from their day off they feel low afterwards because
they think they don’t have the authority to talk about health to others
who ask because they were sick. It’s alright to feel lousy physically
and call in sick. Don’t feel guilty or low because you do - you are
transforming. It is amazing that one the biggest causes of the low
self-esteem is a result of your own thoughts and nothing else. That is
why it is so important to chose our thoughts wisely.

However, you can choose the best thoughts in the world, but if you are
feeding your body junk all day long, you are eventually going to have to
settle your nutritional Karma account. You can choose to what to eat
rather than letting an addiction choose for you. Many religions allow
one to eat anything and then pray to resolve their actions. Prayer is
important, but so are the actions we take on a daily basis. Remember God
has given us choices and it is up to us to literally make our Heaven on
Earth. You are a powerful soul, heading towards true Freedom.

Best of Luck on your Journey…

Mental Diet

Many people talk about the benefits of different food diets. However we
have forgotten probably one of the most important diets to our health
and that being a Mental Diet.

It is not only important in what we put in our mouths but also equally
important is what we put in our minds. As the saying goes ‘Garbage in
and Garbage out’. In today’s society we have become accustomed to let a
box with a screen dominate our thoughts. Have you ever watched a
commercial several times then one day you will be walking along and for
no reason at all you will start singing the commercials jingle and you
will wonder why? Well this is a form of programming. Programming can be
a powerful thing if used in the right way.

A mental diet like any thing in life needs to become habit. A habit is
something that we do each and everyday to the point where it becomes
part of our lives (programming). Of course there are good habits as well
as bad habits. For example the habit of smoking, swearing, eating poor
foods would be considered bad habits where as the habits of being
courteous, going to exercise each day, eating more live foods are good
habits that we choose each day. I know each day we try to choose the
right habit, but sometimes we don’t make those right choices. Of course
the best way to remove a bad habit is to replace it with a good one.

One important Mental Vitamin I recommend in is taking one hour a
day of your time to reading a book/report/web site that would provide
your mind with nourishment. This could be done at any time of the day or
evening. Choose a subject or topic that really interests and inspires
you. By making this a habit, I assure you that it will enhance not only
your mind but your life.

Another Mental Vitamin I recommend is listening to audio
cassettes rather than listening to the top 40 where the only ones that
really benefit are the artists who are selling their music. Instead make
your tape deck a University on Wheels. Think about it for a
moment for the amount of time spent commuting from work to home you
could now learn a new language, listen to inspirational speakers or
better yet you can record your own voice and listen to positive sayings
that you have said about yourself. By doing this you literally can bring
music to your ears for most people love to hear the sound of their own
voices. These are just a few examples of Mental Vitamins I take.

A Mental Diet along with excellent fuel (food) and a spiritual life will
take you a long way in your journey Towards Freedom …

Time

Imagine there is a bank which credits your account each morning with
$86,400, carries over no balance from day to day, allows you to keep no
cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever part of the amount you
had failed to use during the day. What would you do?

Draw out every cent, of course!

Well, everyone has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it
credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost,
whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries
over no balance. It

Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the records
of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours.

There is no going back. There is no drawing against the “tomorrow”.

You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get
from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!

The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR ask a student who has failed his exam.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH ask a mother who has given birth to a
pre- mature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE DAY Ask a daily wage laborer who has ten
kids to feed.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet
or . . .

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE Ask a person who has missed the
train.

To realize the value of ONE SECOND Ask a person who has survived an
accident.

To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND Ask the person who has won a
silver medal in Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have!

And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special…special
enough to have your time… and remember time waits for no one.

ANYWAY

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered; Love them
anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives; Do
good anyway.
If you are successful, you’ll win false friends and true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow; Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable; Be honest and frank
anyway.
People love underdogs, but follow only top dogs; Follow some underdog
anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight; Build
anyway.
People really need help, but may attack you if you help them; Help
people anyway.
Give the world the best that you have and you may get kicked in the
teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

LIFE

Life isn’t about keeping score.
It’s not about how many friends you have
Or how accepted you are.
Not about if you have plans this weekend or if you’re alone.
It isn’t about who you’re dating, who you used to date, how many
people
you’ve dated, or if you haven’t been with anyone at all.
It isn’t about who you have kissed,
It’s not about sex.
It isn’t about who your family is or how much money they have
Or what kind of car you drive.
Or where you are sent to school.
It’s not about how beautiful or ugly you are.
Or what clothes you wear, what shoes you have on, or what kind of music
you
listen to.
It’s not about if your hair is blonde, red, black, or brown
Or if your skin is too light or too dark.
Not about what grades you get, how smart you are, how smart everybody
else
thinks you are, or how smart standardized tests say you are.
It’s not about what clubs you’re in or how good you are at “your”
sport.
It’s not about representing your whole being on a piece of paper and
seeing
who will “accept the written you.”

LIFE JUST ISN’T

But, life is about who you love and who you hurt.
It’s about who you make happy or unhappy purposefully.
It’s about keeping or betraying trust.
It’s about friendship, used as a sanctity or a weapon.
It’s about what you say and mean, maybe hurtful, maybe heartening.
About starting rumors and contributing to petty gossip.
It’s about what judgments you pass and why. And who your judgments are
spread
to.
It’s about who you’ve ignored with full control and intention.
It’s about jealousy, fear, ignorance, and revenge.
It’s about carrying inner hate and love, letting it grow, and spreading
it.
But most of all, it’s about using your life to touch or poison other
people’s
hearts in such a way that could have never occurred alone.
Only you choose the way those hearts are affected, and those choices are
what
life’s all about.

The Rules For Being Human

You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be
yours for the entire period this time around.

You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time, informal
school called life. Each day in this school you will have the
opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them
irrelevant and stupid.

There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial
and error, experimentation. The “failed” experiments are as much a
part of the process as the experiment that ultimately “works.”

A lesson is repeated until it is learned. A lesson will be presented
to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have
learned it you can go on to the next lesson.

Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does
not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be
learned.

“There” is no better than “here.” When your “there” has become a
“here,” you will simply obtain another “there” that will, again,
look better than “here.”

Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something
about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or
hate about yourself.

What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and
resources you need; what you do with them is up to you. The choice
is yours.

The answers lie inside you. The answers to life’s questions lie
inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

YOU WILL FORGET ALL THIS.

fruits and vegetables. Organic produce is grown without harmful
chemicals/pesticides. The key is to buy what is in season. Enjoy.

Some ideas and suggestions for selecting fruit.

How to Select Fruits

Buy in season when quality is highest and prices lowest.

Don’t buy more than you will use before they perish. Use it as soon
as possible they will have a better taste.

Don’t buy damaged fruit unless damage is slight and you will use it
immediately.

Be careful how you handle fruit in stores so you don’t ruin the
fruit for others.

Fruit should only be eaten when ripe. Some foods (bananas can be
purchased green and ripened at home.

Try to purchase organic fruit as much as possible for they are not
sprayed with pesticides.

Smell the produce and see if there is an unpleasant odour coming
from the fruit.

If fruit doesn’t taste right it is better to disregard it than
disregard your health.

Here are some tips for specific fruits:

Seasons: October through March.
Types: Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Pippin, Golden Grimes,
McIntosh, Jonathan and Winesap.
Selecting: Organic if possible. Apples are one of the most sprayed
fruits. Apples should be firm and crisp with bright and shiny skin.
Color is a sign of maturity in apples - high in color indicates
maturity - and only apples picked when mature will have good flavor and
texture.

Apricots

Season : June through July
Selecting : Look for plump, juicy looking apricots with a uniform
golden- orange hue. When ripe they will gently yield to pressure. Due to
the short growing season dried apricots are very popular. Avoid sulfur
covered dried apricots and buy organic if available.

Avocados

Season : Available all year.
Selecting : Very important to eat avocados when just ripe, when it has
a buttery consistency and a mild flavor. Best to buy avocados when they
are hard and firm. Take them home, place them in a brown paper bag and
let them ripen at room temperature. Select avocados of uniform colors
and free of cracks. Don’t buy avocados with dark, sunken spots in
irregular patches or cracked surfaces.

Bananas

Season : Available all year.
Selecting : It is best to buy bananas when green for ripening at home,
where ripening conditions can be controlled. Bananas are usually
‘gassed’ to facilitate ripening. Bananas have a good protective skin so
the flesh isn’t exposed to chemical sprays. Select bananas free from
surface bruises with skin intact at both tips. Don’t buy bananas which
are bruised, discolored, or dull and grayish which means they have been
held in cold storage and will never ripen properly.

Oranges

Season : December through June.
Types : Navels, Temples, Tangelos, Valencia’s, Tangerines, Tangerines,
Pineapple oranges.
Selecting : Color of the skin is no indication of quality or ripeness.
The skin of the first crops of mature oranges in November are green or
greenish, but mature oranges are ready for harvest and eating, even when
the skin is green. They are, however, not as sweet as oranges harvested
a month or so later on. California growers ‘orange’ their green fruit by
gassing; Florida shippers put the oranges through a colored wax bath (a
’nontoxic’ food coloring and wax). because they believe the added color
will make the fruit more saleable. Firm heavy oranges are full of juice.
Avoid lightweight fruit and a very rough surface, which usually
signifies a thick skin and a smaller orange.

Papayas

Seasons : Some of the fruit is available all year long.
Selecting : Select fruit that has some golden yellow or orange
streaks, which is a sign that it has not been picked to green and will
be apt to ripen properly. If you select papaya with at least 35% of the
skin streaked yellow , they will ripen completely in two or three days
at room temperature. When a papaya is totally yellow to orange and
yields to gentle pressure, it is then ready for eating. Avoid mushy
papayas, or fruit with dark patches, which signify age and decay. The
taste should be sweet and lucious.

Mangos

Seasons : May through August.
Selecting Fruit : Mango can be bought green and ripened at room
temperature. It is best to select mangos which are starting to show
signs of ripening, rather then totally hard and green, or totally ripe.
Haden Mangos are ready to eat when it is yellow/orange, only slightly
firm, yielding to gentle pressure. The Carrie mango is large and green.
It turns a paler green and develops dark speckles as it ripens. When
ripe enough for full flavor and enjoyment, it is slightly firm, yielding
to pressure. Mangos have a tough peel which is a good protective coat
against pesticides.

I grew up in believing that if one drinks his milk, eats all his food on
his plate and eats plenty of meat that I will have robust health and
grow up healthy and strong. Of course this seemed to make sense to me
because everyone around me was doing this so it must be the right thing
to do. How could so many people be wrong? Besides, while growing up my
father worked in a meat factory in charge of maintenance, so I never
questioned the consumption of meat at that time. I was raised with love
and always saw my parents working hard. However their dietary habits
were very questionable. People do, I believe, the best they know how to
at that given time . I certainly did not have the best eating habits at
that time.

I guess you would have called me a ‘burger boy’. I had to have a
hamburger each day along with several glasses of milk. As a matter of
fact, I use to feel extremely guilty if I didn’t have a large glass of
milk before I went to sleep. So I would have one each night. Boy, was I
conditioned!

However, if this was the optimum way to health then why did I suffer
from sore throats, allergies, colds, ear aches, constipation, acne etc.?
I continued eating this way for many years up until the age of about 20
when I entered the Army.

This was an interesting experience. I learned many things while in the
army, one of them being the power that the mind has over the body and I
had the opportunity to meet an incredible friend named David Weiman, who
truly was a soldier of the heart.

I was involved in a lot of sport teams, always reading the latest on
sports nutrition and diet. Of course, I didn’t realize it at the time
that all these articles are paid for by companies. This, of course,
would make the articles somewhat biased.

While in the Army I was in great shape. I had a physique that most men
my age would have wanted, lean and muscular. However I was always tired
and sick even having to go to the hospital to have them work on my
hemorrhoids. Plus, I developed a rash on my face and the medical
community tried to heal it through medications. I had a very bad
reaction to the drugs so bad that my face was full of blisters. It
wasn’t pretty for sure. I chose not to use the poisons they call
medicines again.

I was becoming desperate and was willing to try almost anything to
improve my condition in which I was so unhappy with.

Their is an old saying, “when the student is ready the teacher will
appear”.

Well this came in the form of a book: Unlimited Power by Anthony
Robbins. This book literally changed my life physically and mentally. I
read the chapter on Fuel for excellence in which they talked about
vegetarianism and food combining. I found it to be incredible! I
wondered how come I didn’t know about this before? So I gave it a try
and literally went cold turkey (I should say lettuce). I dropped all
meat consumption and the magical process began. Remember, I did this
while learning how to kill and maim people, while serving as an infantry
soldier. As you probably have guessed, this was not the most vegetarian
friendly place to do this. Despite the ridicule, I continued and I am
glad I did.

I couldn’t believe the incredible amount of energy that I had now. I
shed many unhealthy pounds through detoxification and ran a marathon
with only 10 days of training. This was done through the power of the
mind (NLP) and the fuel through a vegetarian lifestyle. This simple goal
proved to me that anything is possible.

I was really feeling powerful and unstoppable. I had become a vegetarian
for health reasons and it wasn’t until reading John Robbins’ book Diet
for a New America (after the army) that I learned about the cruel acts
that was being done to our friends the animals. Kind of sad when you
think that most peoples’ interactions with the animals is to eat them.

I met my soulmate Denise (who is an incredible soul with life changing
qualities) while in the army and later wed her after I had left the
army. One thing that I did see happen in the Army was the changes that
where taking place as a result of David and I being Vegetarians. Out of
all the places in the world to become a vegetarian (especially when I
was being trained to kill), I could see the changes of more healthy
foods being available in the mess halls and others being interested in
the vegetarian lifestyle.

As my journey continued, I found myself not having the energy that I
once did even though I was still a vegetarian. I was once giving a
business seminar when I received some information in the mail from a
natural healing school I had sent for. I was interested in becoming a
health practitioner (one must earn a living), because of my enthusiasm
for wanting to learn more about health. However, most courses I sent
for, talked about the importance of meat/dairy protein etc. For me
taking these courses would have been difficult because I would have
failed the tests unless I lied. I found a course which seemed to be
along my beliefs, run by a gentlemen known as T.C. Fry (author of
several books one being The Great Aids Hoax ) and wow, was the
information on his booklet a shocker.

I thought I was doing everything right eating plenty of tofu, pasta,
bread, cereals etc. Boy was I wrong. I went over the booklet several
times with excitement because it just made sense to me.

I then decided to go all Raw (this was about 5 years ago), mainly eating
fruits and a few vegetables. I shed a lot of unhealthy pounds through
the detoxification process. However I was not ready to continue.

Timing is everything in life. At that time I was going through a lot of
emotional stress, loss of a business, Denise’s father passing away and
everyone (family) thinking I was becoming a skeleton, and in a world
full of vanity this was a big blow to my Male Ego at the time. I felt I
didn’t have the support to continue, so I put Raw foods on the back
burner and continued to eat cooked foods.

The interesting thing that I have learned since then, is when someone is
detoxifying, not only are past food sins being released - so are past
emotions and we need to know how to deal with them..

I did not know of meditation at the time. Although I was brought up as a
Roman Catholic, we really never knew too much about it, except it was
some thing someone does if they belong to a religion.

My thoughts were becoming weak after reading so much information on
Health and so many contradictions. I began to question myself and became
confused. When one starts doubting each thing that one does then our
thoughts become poor. I developed severe anxiety to the point where I
even was questioning my breathing patterns. I knew I had to do something
about this. (Of course everything happens for a purpose and a new person
was emerging.)

I kept hearing so much about yoga and the benefits, so I looked in the
yellow pages under yoga and saw a listing for Raja Yoga. This experience
would change my life also. I went to classes almost on a daily basis and
practiced meditation. I learned that we are not these physical bodies
but spiritual beings and that God was our true energy source.. I also
had the opportunity of meeting with many spiritually tuned people one in
particular, Hasmuk, whom I am privileged to have as my good friend..

With the knowledge I had learned, I began to put it into practice.
Through meditation I started to notice a lot of emotions coming up. So I
know knew how to deal with them and most importantly I started to trust
myself once again.

Many years passed and I began to think about Raw foods again. If Raw
foods can assist the body in healing serious incurable diseases then
what if someone like myself who was in good physical shape, lived that
lifestyle. What would happen then?

So I made the transition to the point where I was eating only one cooked
meal a week. Now when I look back at it, I really don’t know why I did
have that one meal per week because after I ate it I really didn’t feel
that great.

Then the magic began one day. I decided I have choices in my life and I
chose to go Raw. This was a powerful decision. My life has transformed
by being Raw. You become a new person and see things in a different way.
Now I had a strong foundation, so while I was detoxifying, I was now
able to deal with two issues I never knew how to deal with before.

The first was weight loss through detoxification. This is a challenging
aspect to most males because of the Male Ego. Men have been brought up
in believing that to survive in this world one must be strong physically
and look the part also. If not, then he will not survive in this world
and simply perish.

So when men start losing a lot of unhealthy weight they become fearful
and panic because they believe that the body is them. Most suffering in
the world is a direct result of our attachment to these bodies. Some of
these results are in the form of vanity, greed, lust etc.

The other aspect of Raw that I learned, is trusting. Trusting in God,
Mother Nature and myself I know now, that God will provide everything if
we are willing to simply just let go. So I did and it is amazing to just
do that.

Life is simple, we just tend to make it complicated.

Raw foods is a incredible way of providing one the optimum fuel for this
vehicle we call a body, in achieving what one desires and allowing more
energy to provide benefit to the world. Raw foods provides one with more
time. For example, less time cooking and preparing foods and more time
doing the things you enjoy.

Raw foods has also opened up a new network for me. I have met friends
from across the world who share the same passion as I do.

Is Raw food the only key to a Healthy Fulfilling life? No, but it is
important in providing the best fuel for the body. The disciplines I
have learned through Raw Foods has transpired in other areas of my life.

For every disciplined effort their are multiple rewards.

As I continue on my journey, I keep learning how to improve oneself. I
realize the importance of Self-Responsibility when I take care of myself
physically, mentally and spiritually. I do not then become a burden for
others. When one is sick, then one puts a strain on others, because one
has to be taken care of physically and financially. Our health care
system is set up so people do not need to take that responsibility and
that is why you see the problems and high taxes you see today.

Many people today do not take the responsibility for their own
well-being. They would much rather blame it on something outside of them
such as past experiences, viruses etc. This of course allows them to
feel like weak victims instead of powerful souls which is who we really
are. When one feels weak and with low self-esteem, they can become prey
to others who would take advantage of them (one being the Medical
industry which has profited enormously at the expense of human lives).

As we head into the new Millennium and Towards Freedom, we ask
ourselves, “Why are so many people unhappy with so much in technological
advances and material wealth?” I believe it is because people are
understanding that it is not something outside of us that will provide
happiness, but something inside that will. People are looking for a more
spiritual side of life now.

I see a shift taking place right now. I see the world cleansing itself.
Many changes will take place. Many people will become, what I like to
call, Torch Bearers, that is people who have been able to see the light
inside them and now cast it out to the world so that others can see
their own light on the way back home. As we move Towards Freedom ….

My goals are to help spread the news of Health, to assist others in
their goals of seeing their light and to continue my own growth, so that
I may not be a burden on others.

This site is dedicated to God and the Torch Bearers of this world.

(If your name is not on this list it is not to say you are not a torch
bearer. You are a torch bearer as well. I have just not had the pleasure
of meeting you. Someday I hope we might. )

God Bless!
