The Rabbitats Rescue Society houses abandoned domestic rabbits in indoor and outdoor habitats.

They are a well-organized, efficient group with volunteer, adoption, and fostering programs. Additionally, they provide humane solutions to feral rabbit management. They are a CRA registered charity and will put your tax creditable donation to good use!

Most importantly they don’t just provide solutions, they try to eliminate the problem by lobbying for

rabbit sale controls
guardian registry and education
spay/neuter clinics
anti-dumping laws with heavy fines

The mission of this very competent organization is “to empower animal advocates with access to research, analysis, strategies, and messages that maximize their effectiveness to reduce animal suffering”. Their About page outlines topics such as:

Animal Justice

Animal Justice is in our opinion the best thing that’s happened to animal rights in Canada! They are making sure that animals have a legal voice with a team of lawyers and advocates.

Animal Justice’s mission statement from their About-Us page reads:

We believe that animals need lawyers, and our legal team works to protect animals from cruelty and neglect. Canada has some of the worst animal protection laws in the Western world, and our mission is to overhaul the legal system to better reflect our country’s values of compassion and justice for all.

The dedicated people are action-oriented taking to task unscrupulous attempts by animal abusers to cover up their crimes (eg gag laws) and brings offenses to the public eye … and to court!

They hold the important Canadian Animal Law Conference in conjunction with Faculties of Law and even have a student program to prepare the next generation.

An up-to-date blog provides the latest news on animal issues and their free online advocacy training program known as the Animal Justice Academy helps to develop and support those who try to make this world a better place.

Animal Justice furthers what is the most important matter humanity has always and ever faced, that of how we behave towards the vulnerable, for therein lies our species’ destiny.

TheAnimal Defense & Anti-Vivisection Society of British Columbia (ADAV), established by a veterinary surgeon in 1927, is a peaceful, grassroots organization committed to the abolition of vivisection on moral, ethical and scientific grounds.

The ADAV Society strives to inform the public of the grim realities faced by animals used in experiments, promote the use of superior and more humane non-animal alternatives, and alert the public to the proven invalidity of basing human medicine and toxicology on other species.

We conduct outreach events and letter-writing campaigns, sponsor speaker series, and network with other groups nationally and internationally in an effort to change policies on animal experimentation.

We have recently published an article, It’s Time, by cancer survivor, Maidie Hilmo PhD, on our site, encouraging people to ask charities to guarantee their donation will not be used for research on animals. The article also includes a link to ADAV’s humane charities website, which lists charities that are committed to helping humans without hurting animals.
