Why were we brought out here to die?
We're beautiful with braided manes,
We once were loved we do have names.

It feels as if, yesterday i thought horses were free to run. Free for love, free from the pain. Today i have realized not all is beautiful. Not all love lasts, and though they have done so much for us, we betray them by killing them for ourselves. I sit here today crying away wondering how we could be so cruel. I am still a kid, with so much more to learn, but the pain wont go away. the pain in my heart will stick there forever, it wont ever go away.

The love is no longer a part of them, the freedom is no longer there. They do not have the right to run free, because we are the problem.

These horses deserve to live there lives as free as they can be. No more pain no more suffering, no more hate no more torturing, just happy horses running free.

When I visited Scotland last year I couldn't believe how many people asked me about the seal hunt and the horse slaughter. I fear for I know not what that means only hope for the best. But fearing the worst from the cruel hits and pain I have felt since you sent me away. I will never again get to show my love to another human. For your not caring enough for me, sent me away without protecting me first. I will always love you though no matter what. For every person outraged at the atrocity of horse slaughter remember that this is normal for the millions of farm animals killed for meat every single day all over the world. No one weeps for them. No one weeps for the cats and dogs skinned alive in China and Korea. We know how you suffered. Your final journey to slaughter was one of hunger, thirst, exhaustion, rough, unfamiliar handling, fear, betrayal, pain and despair. We mourn and cry for every one of you.
To think of it, speak it, write about it and look at it is so painful. But we must do so, to end the suffering for other horses, and finally make this right.

Dear Canadians,
Please do not be ashamed to be Canadian. Be proud to be a Canadian against horse slaughter. It is not a country that slaughters horses, it is a condition of a man's heart, without without light, a soul that has no compassion for an inocent and defenceless animal, and is not just a condition found in Canada, it can be in any country. God bless you all for fighting for the horses. But now we do not cry for the ones gone, we fight for the ones still here.

I don't know who to pity more the horses who have to experience this barbaric treatment and pain or the souls who have lost complete connection with the Divinity within that they are able to carry out these horrendous acts. The horses are finally free and alive in a place where nothing can harm them again. Hopefully the people who perform these acts, who have become mere mechanical robots will receive a wake up call from their soul that makes them seek once again their connection with the Divine within and will no longer be able to stomach their past actions as you and I cannot stomach them now.

I watched them go, one by one - I don't know where exactly but they were all Standardbreds who raced their hearts out until they were too old or too injured. I printed off the papers for the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society and gave them to the owners. I offered to pay for the vet checks, and to arrange transportation. I would do all the work, all they had to do was fill in the papers - but rescues don't pay for the horses and they wanted money. A tax receipt wasn't good enough. I did all I could and I couldn't stop it. I miss them so much - Road, Ledge, Wooley, Port, Chico, Five for Fighting, Falcon, Major, Carson, Fury, others I can't even remember their names. Still, every spring there's a new foal. I'm just so, so sad. I will always love them

this is soooo sad. Horses should be treasured and loved like any other animal at least lets have some respect for any living creature. Control how many horses can be produced so they can be respected and loved. stop producing overloads of race horses or babies to keep mares pregnat for an income -- its inhuman

As a child I dreamed of owning a horse, when I was 18 I finally could afford one. He was my best friend and will forever hold a special place in my heart. When he became lame at an old age, I was told he should be put down or even sent off to auction, but I wouldn't here of it! I turned him out to pasture where he lived the next several years till he passed of old age. He was my best friend......I don't believe that people are bad, but not enough good people are aware of the horrible things that are happening to such beautiful creatures. May the Lord comfort all the souls of the horses lost.....RIP

I couldn't stand the thought of sending my precious Princess to slaughter after I found out our Nutmeg was sent there a few years ago. So when the time came and Princess passed away recentlly, we buried her in the pasture were I cared for her for so many years. It is unfortunate that Nutmeg went through this alberta slaughter house. I did not know what a horrible place she was being sent to. My Eyes Have Been Opened And I Know The Truth and what some humans do to animals, for a pay cheque, that have been there for us for generations. It makes me sick that people eat horse meat. I miss our horses and it makes me sick that Nutmeg was sent to die like that with no familiar faces to comfort her. I think about her calling out for her fellow friends and pasture mates.

When I look into my horses eyes and she looks back at me, I see the love we have, she trusts me, she depends on me for her food, brushing,she knows when I'm having a bad day, and just being with her cheers me up, she is my best friend and I love my beautiful haflinger. Force the government to lobby the Europeans to stop importing and eating horse meat. That would put the Slaughter houses out of business.

As a european canadian, i always found it shameful that most people are told the meat is exported to Japan. It is blamed on the Japanese.

THE TRUTH is it is us Europeans that consume 99.999% of the horse meat.
